Began in 1842, this part of Kings Road was a settlement called Matanzas. It was on the Second Spanish Period grant to Francisco Pellicer. The part along the river was planted in orange trees and became known as Cherokee Grove. In the late 1800s, Henry Cutting bought the property and established a residence and hunting camp. After his death, his wife Angela married an exiled Russian Prince, becoming a Princess, and the property became known as Princess Place.
